The holiday is finally over for our family. Mrs. Ttyymmnn heads back to work today, I start five weeks of heavy rehearsals and gigs, and the boys go back to school on Tuesday. Break was nice, with a 3,500 mile road trip in the middle. But I’m looking forward to getting back in the swing of things.

Last fall, the Austin Symphony played the score for a screening of The Wizard of Oz . I hadn’t seen it in 40 years (as a kid, I was totally freaked out by the flying monkeys) , and still didn’t get to see it because my chair was behind the screen. It’s a great book (a term for the musical portion of a movie or show ), and was fun to play. But I got a chance to watch it at Christmastime, since this is apparently a Christmas movie. And I’ve got to say, it totally holds up. The writing is still fresh, the jokes are still funny, and the performances are all top shelf . And the effects are superb for 1939.

It really is something for a 1939 movie. I used to watch it every year.
